Kinvara Sustainable Living is an organization with the goal to encourage and support practical small scale food production in the community – to enable people to grow food for themselves and improve their quality of life. With food contamination scares, increased environmental awareness and the current economic climate growing some of your own food is an appealing option available to anyone prepared to invest their time. Sustainable food production means looking after the land and raising plants and animals without the use of toxic chemicals. An increased awareness of the seasonal nature of locally grown food follows. Eating local produce is environmentally sound – reducing food miles and if grown in a sustainable manner limiting pollution.
Are you interested in learning how to grow fruit and vegetables for your family?
We can teach you how, through evening classes, and day courses in Co. Galway. Our courses blend time in the classroom with ‘hands on’ practical experience in the garden. Where possible we cover seasonal topics – you can apply what you have learned when you get home! We attempt to tailor material covered to student’s needs and restrict group size. Along with vegetable growing we run courses and demonstrations, on fruit growing and jam making, seed saving and on domestic poultry keeping, where we combine classroom know how with hands on practice. In the future we may also cover back yard pig keeping if there is a demand.
Kinvara Sustainable Living is a not for profit organization.
